Another Man’s Gold – Don’t Be Fooled

Another Man’s Gold – Don’t Be Fooled
Self released – 2014
Rock, Grunge, Pop, Funk, Blues, Desert
Rated: ***

They hail from Vancouver, Canada and sound as wild, warm and wonderful as anything coming out of the desert. They’ve named themselves Another Man’s Gold and apart from a few moments they have very little to do with stoner or desert rock; but they do sound sandy and incredibly wide. You can just see the endless horizon and the starry skies at night when you listen to an amazing track like The Moon And Haunted Bones. It sort of sits dead center on the debut album Don’t Be Fooled by these four freaks and serves together with the interlude that came before it as a tipping point. Where we were treated to alternative rock and grunge with a funky pop feel on the first four songs. The next ones are more laidback, lazy and out there… Among the cacti and beasts who can sit still and loose themselves in the wonderful view.  It’s hard to believe it’s the same band and that the boys been collecting their music in different industrial areas and dusty warehouses. For it sounds so open and spacious. Well, let’s just state the obvious: Don’t Be Fooled contains inspired passion and craftsmanship that has endless possibilities as a starting point. So it’s only right to ask; we’ve witnessed the start of something great; what comes next?
